Frederick Law Olmested Jr. was a leading American landscape architect. He argued that people will develop serious mental illness, if they were not provided with beautiful natural resources to enjoy. He said “ the enjoyment of a scenery employs the mind without fatigue and yet exercises it, tranquilizes it and yet enlivens it, and thus through the influence of the mind over the body, gives the effect of refreshing test and reinvigorating to the whole system.”
